I very rarely buy a new perfume, call me a creature of habit or just finicky – there’s hardly a scent that really captures my attention. But this one? I tried it on in store while buying some other things (more on that coming Sunday) and simply couldn’t get it out of my head. What’s so captivating about this scent? Let me tell you all about Wood Sage & Sea Salt
Straight from Jo Malone’s own bumf “Escape the everyday along the windswept shore. Waves breaking white, the air fresh with sea salt and spray. Alive with the mineral scent of the rugged cliffs. Mingling with the woody earthiness of sage. Lively, spirited and totally joyful.” and it really does smell like the beach in the winter time, I should know living by the ocean.
There are notes of citrus in there, overall it’s a woody-sea scent with some fruity-florals. Based on fragnatica.com the notes are Amberette (Musk Mallow), Sea-Salt, Sage, Seaweed and grapefruit. I love how it’s very simple, without a long list of notes and complex body.
This might be too simple, or light for some people but for me it’s perfect. Scent is super personal, and the lifestyle you lead really impacts it. I wouldn’t call this a night-time scent, it’s very light-fresh with a bit of spice, that’s spot on for my jeans-tee-parka style. It lasts quite well on me, around 7 hours, and suits me to a T.
The bottle is simple, with a clean design that Jo Malone is known for. I had it gift wrapped in the iconic box, and received a hefty amount of samples (so I can become a total addict). I purchased the 100ml version, but it’s also available in 30ml. I’m very loyal to a scent once I’ve decided to go for it, my 3rd bottle of Prada Infusion D’Iris will attest to that, so this one is sure to stick around for a while.
The scent is so… me. It’s so suitable to my environment, and the current season (winter-spring) that I simply can’t fault it. I may turn right back to my Diptyque Philosykos come June – and then right back to Dolce in September, but for now? Jo Malone’s Wood Sage and Sea Salt has my heart.
