An Ode to Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk

DSC_3528If there was one foundation to rule them all, in my opinion, this would be it. Now, it’s not the desert island option (no SPF, and I doubt there’s flash-photography on the island) but if there’s one foundation I will be repurchasing with a manic fervour it’s going to be the Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk. Why you ask? Well, let me tell you all about itI’d be bold and claim that this is the best colour match I’ve ever found in a foundation. I wear the shade 4.0 I’d bought it online without ever trying that particular shade on, last summer I was in NYC and a significant amount more tan than I usually am and was matched to 5.o so I’ve experienced it on before taking the leap.  It might be the perfection of the colour match that makes me extra sweet on it.
Other than a rather extensive colour selection (for the super pale ladies, the pink or the yellow) there’s the texture. Oh man, it’s nice and runny but not so liquid that you can’t pump it out on the back of your hand to mix in something (lustre drops, a bit of shimmery primer, Kevyn Aucoin’s sensual skin enhancer for extra coverage). It goes on the skin smooth, doesn’t cling to dry flaky bits and has a skin like fish that not dewy but not matte. It’s not a velvety foundation but it’s not shiney-glowy like the YSL Le Teint Touche Eclat. With a medium + coverage, it is build able but as Ellie said if you try to build too much it can get cake and you’ll lose the magic. I go for a sheer first layer and then do a second run over areas that need it, then add concealer.

For a comparison of the shade 4.0 against other foundations I’ll be reusing a picture for my post about the Dior SkinStar (which can be found here). I really like all of the foundations swatched, but in a pinch or a rushed to go out situation I’ll always be reaching for the GA Luminous Silk.
It’s a pricey one as it goes for a whopping 62$, but considering that Sephora now stock this little magic bottle and the Spring event is just around the corner I’d keep my wallet ready. I don’t think this would be great for those who love a heavy, matte finish like the Estee Lauder Double wear so if you’ve got oily skin that you like to keep on lock-down stay away. If you’re a normal skinned girl who likes some glow without the dew go for it, if your a dry skinned gal you’ll cry tears of joy and then feel a burst of anxiety at the thought of running out.
IMG_5488I went for a very glowy look with this foundation, the coverage is medium and a bit more and I only needed a bit of the Nars Radiant Creamy Concealer in Vanilla to cover some scarring, active breakouts and brighten under the eyes. To give extra glow I layered it over the Clarin’s Instant Light Radiance Boosting Complexion Base, and swept ‘Highlight’ from the Charlotte Tilbury FilmStar Bronze & Glow.

So, what’s you holy grail foundation? The one you cannot live without?

  • I love this foundation too and I have combo skin. I like the natural finish and how long it lasts on me.
