an Ode to: Rose Skincare

Rose SkincareIf you’ve been reading my blog you’ll know I’ve been having a bit of a rose-loving session. I’ve been reading more and more for shades that are rosey, or have rose in the name, be it Dior’s Ciel Rose or Burberry’s Rosewood the slightly more pinked hued are definitely having a moment for me. The same goes for skincare, so let me tell you about 3 rose based products I’m loving – and 3 more I’ve got my eye on.

Rose is a pretty well known skin care ingredient, and the nice scent doesn’t do any harm. It’s known for it’s soothing and calming properties, and there’s a plethora of different roses from which to derive ingredients. My first foray into rosey territory was with the much talked about MV Organics Rose Plus Booster that I purchased on Cult Beauty. MV Organics is a cult brand used by celebrities and made with some really wonderful ingredients, and I first heard of this specific product from Vivianna of viviannadoesmakeup. Being of dehydrated skin, any oil is a good oil for me, but this? It’s beyond that. You only need a two, maybe three drops for your entire face. It’s like a shot of hydration to the face, it doesn’t sit on the skin or leave an oily residue; when my skin’s a little temperamental I reach for this and will see a difference overnight. From angry and irritated to calm and hydrated – it’s more than worth the price tag.
I’ve already extolled my love for the By Terry Baume de Rose in the past, in general I’m a bit of a luxe balm fan. This one does what it should, moisturises the lips without feeling heavy or sticky. It’s a light, comfortable balm that leaves a slight gloss on the lips with a slight light-pink tint. The most important part of a balm is the end result – it’s all nice when it’s on but does it leave behind soft and moisturised lips? It does. So if you’re looking for a bit of a splurge item this fall/winter this is one to go for. (Mine is a special 50th birthday edition)
Lastly is one that’s fairly new to the line up for me, Jurlique’s Rosewater Balancing Mist. Nothing beats a facial mist for me, I love the Serozinc or the more floral and essential oil packed Caudalie Beauty Elixer, but this one is a total winner. Housed in a hefty glass bottle this isn’t one for travel, the spray is a fine mist that isn’t cringe worthy like some, with a plastic spray top. The toner itself is light and hydrating, with a strong rose scent, and sinks in to the skin within a few seconds – just enough to work in that facial oil with a hint more slip. If you’ve a Jurlique counter near you, go and do a few spritzes on your face you won’t regret it.

The three I’m looking forward to trying out include a pretty new Origins launch the Original Skin Retexturing Mask with Rose Clay which is meant to be amazing and skin smoothing. I’m also very keen on giving the somewhat new, previously named ISIS and now reformulated, Flora Hydroactive Cellular Face Oil from Sunday Riley (right after I get my mitts on Luna) which is jam packed with good skin ingredients. Lastly, is something I’ve tried before but want to go full size with – the Fresh Rose Hydrating Eye Gel Cream that has one of the best formulas I’ve tried.

Anything you want to check out that’s got Rose in it? Or even better – a recommendation for something I should add to the list? Let me know in the comments!
