Shop the Stash – Making it thru a Buying Ban

DSC_6076I’ve spent the past two months on a “buying ban” and with only one more month to go – I made the decision at the end on July to not buy beauty bits for 2 months (and I may be extending this a bit till October). After a truly massive haul in July followed by anther one after a trip to Prague, I felt a bit overwhelmed by the sheer amount of stuff I owned. So, when you’ve got all this makeup and you’re not adding new bits – you rediscover some products. These are the ones I’ve rekindled my love for (followed by a small confession).
What have I rediscovered? Many new base combinations – I’m a bit of a base mixologist, and in my attempts to finish up some products I’ve been mixing them in with others. This Chantecaille Just Skin tinted moisturiser does not pack enough of a punch on the coverage front, but it feels so beautiful on the skin it’s kind of hard not to use it. I add in a dollop of the CoverFX custom cover drops or the Laura Mercier Silk creme in and all is good. I’ve also rediscovered the Guerlian Meteorites, and while I hate the smell and the utter faff this product is, this powder gives a nice glow to the skin – it’s no hourglass but it does “set” things a bit more. Those pearls are quite pretty to look at too…

Since my pale pale face simply does not match the masses of bronzed bodies outside – helloooo 30 degree weather! I’ve been needing a little something to warm it up with, I loved the Urban Decay Naked Flushed palette in Streak last year and now I’ve been loving that bronzer even more. I find the highlight a bit too peachy pink for me and the blush too warm, but in a  rush both do the job well. It’s the bronzer that simply works it’s not too warm or too cool, has just enough pigment and blends out like a dream. Since I don’t own a stand alone bronzer that isn’t in a palette (I have a palette problem) this makes me wish it came solo for purchase too.

My two Nars eye shadow palettes – the Narsissist and the “And God Created The Woman” have been hiding in the back of my collection for a while. While I want to reach for the Naked 3 everyday all day, it’s my favourite I’d say, or the Tartelette for those mattes these Nars ones deserve some love. The AGCTW (let’s call it that yeah?) has the perfect mix of shadows, along with my favourite crease colour Bellisima – that’s the middle matte taupey grey brown. The top row sees more love then the bottom from me, but I like myself a shimmery bronzey eye. I’ve also been loving the Alhambra shade (light shimmery pink-champagne) for an all over the lid thing on lazy days, with a bit of Belissima for definition in the crease and some Coconut Grove (bottom, middle matte brown) along the lash line. I’m going to be challenging myself to a 7 days of using mainly the Narsissist next…

Lastly, lips. I’ve had the Cowshed Lippy Cow lip balm hanging about for  awhile now and with the state of them getting dire I’ve used it all up. It’s a nice balm but I wasn’t blown away, currently I’m using up the Body Shop Aloe one and a Ren but it’s nice to be using up stuff. The YSL Rouge Volupte Shine lipsticks are the greatest thing ever – I adore to bits the purpley Fuchsia In Rage and have been neglecting Pink In Paris. No more! I’ve been loving this soft, warmer pink along with those bronzey eyes and a warmed up complexion. It’s nice and smooth, with a hint of shimmer running thru it. A perfect summer time lip.

Confession time: I did buy some things these past two months. The launch of the Charlotte Tilbury Matte Revolution range in Nordstorms along with a friend’s trip home meant I made an order for us both (we split the shipping!), I got Lost Cherry which I review here an eye kohl and the legendary Pillow Talk (review soon). We went shopping as girls do and picked up the YSL Tint in Oil (but I used up my points and scored it for 18 USD), she also brought me the Origins Rose Clay mask from Europe. A different friend picked up the CT Bitch Perfect in the US for me, and the Feelunique sale happened – the boyfriend was kind enough to buy me some bits for being *good* with the minimal spending.
That’s 2 months and 5 products purchased by me – I’d count that as improvement!
So it wasn’t 100% no new makeup, on a ban, no spending at all period – but I’ve greatly reduced the amount of things I do buy and that? Feels kinda good.
I’ll be in London in November and thus plan on purchasing nothing until then, unless it’s the Luna from CultBeauty as I’m waiting for a good offer. Semi-ban; consider yourself extended to October as well.

I’m the same. I have a buying ban, but it only means I don’t acquire any entire collections, hust a few bits here and there LOL. I must say that I’ve fortunately been underwhelmed by most autumn offerings so far. I’ve been waiting for Chanel though, and it’s about to hit The Netherlands….

  • I loving shopping my stash, I always rediscover some amazing products 🙂 the palette in the picture looks absolutely stunning! x

  • Shopping the stash is always a good reality check and when you discover old products you’ve neglected, they’re almost like you’ve just bought them! I really enjoy experimenting with mixing bases as well – always looking for that perfect combo 🙂
