In my birthday haul I was lucky enough to have a wish listed lipstick given to me by my Mum. The lipstick in question? The ultimate luxury product – a Tom Ford Lip Colour. I went for Violet Fatale which next to Pussycat, Black Orchid or even Ginger doesn’t get that much love online. For me it’s perfect and let me tell you why.
First off there’s the packaging. I mean, come on it’s Tom Ford it’s going to be gorgeous and hefty and all the good things. It is exactly what you expect, weighty and glossy with that signature TF on the lid. It clicks shut nicely and the even weight distribution makes it a dream to apply. Packaging is important to me, call me superficial but I want my lipstick housed in something beautiful.Of course that TF embossed tip is crucial for the Tom Ford experience. I’ve yet to muster the courage to disrupt it and have been applying my lipstick from the back, but the slanted tip does make for easy and precise application. I’m sure I’ll crack and use it the right-way round in a little while as being so careful with a lipstick just doesn’t flow with me. Thus far it’s been my most reached for lipstick, a combination of awesome formula and colour mean that it’s almost fool proof for me.
Packaging rant aside – let’s talk product. The Tom Ford formula is truly one of the best I’ve tried. These aren’t matte though a matte formula is made by the brand, but rather a satin with a bit of a sheen. It applies like butter; the colour in the bullet looks far more dramatic than it does on the lips on first application. It’s comfortable on the lips, and leaves behind a nice stain. There’s no awkward fading and it survived a salad eating session quite well.
The shade applies quite a bit lighter on the lips than it looks in the bullet. On a sheer application you get a cool-berry fuchsia shade that’s face brightening and teeth whitening haha a rhyme. It’s easily built up to a more opaque deep berry shade that’s not dramatic but still has presence. Whenever I wear this out and about, no matter the method, I get compliments and question regarding my lip colour. I’d say this is the deeper, less shiney, long lasting sister to my beloved YSL Rouge Volupte Shine in 19 Fuchsia in Rage.
Thus far I’d say that while this lipstick is amazing – it isn’t a must. I’m sure the colour is dupable, while the formula may be phenomenal, I’m not sure it’s worth the price. If you’re in the mood for a treat, have room in that christmas wishlist or are simply passing by a DutyFree I’d go for it since I’m sure you won’t regret it. Otherwise, put it on the back burner till you have a reason to take the Tom Ford plunge.
