Last night was my parent’s annual New Years Dinner Party – in which I come to eat the food, drink the wine and enjoy the hilarious stories my dad’s friends tell. I was being helpful this year with the cooking but had about an hour to do my makeup, and decided to go all out. It started with a major glitter fail – but turned out quite well if I do say so my self.
As always I was a bit excessive on the base – however the excess meant my makeup survived cooking 20 portions of Carbonara, making salad and general kitchen shenanigans. I went for double the primer power with the Hourglass for smoothing and lasting action and Charlotte Tilbury’s WonderGlow for, well, glow.
Then I concocted a glowy base with Glossier’s Skin Tint in Light and Flower Cosmetics About Face Foundation in LF1, it was a bit light on the perimeter of my face so I added a bit of Chanel’s Vitalumiere Aqua in B20. Layered it all on with my trusty Beauty Blender, and concealed under my eyes with the Cle de Peau Concealer in Ivory. For a bit of extra coverage where needed (hello hormones!) I went in with Nars Creamy Concealer in Vanilla. I “baked” with a little sample of the W3LL People Bio Brightener Invisible Powder under the eyes and under my contour.
Speaking of contour… I went for layers it’s a theme! With the Charlotte Tilbury Filmstar Bronze & Glow I gave a bit of shape, I defined a bit more with the Kevyn Aucoin Sculpting Powder in Medium. Highlight went to my new acquisition from Becca – the Shimmering Skin Perfecter Pressed in Pearl. To add a bit more colour to my rather pale face I went in the Tarte’s Amazonian Clay Blush in Exposed because I’m predictable.
On the eyes I did some defining with Tarte’s Tartelette Palette with a a cool medium brown and a darker grey-brown in the crease. The lid colour was Burberry’s Rosewood and for the lash line I used Charlotte Tilbury’s Rock’n’Kohl liner in Verushka Mink. Lashes were a first coat of the Benefit Lash Primer (which is awesome! Review sometime soon) and the Fairy Drop’s Scandal Queen Quattro, one of the best finer mascaras I’ve tried. Then I went in with a bit of the Urban Decay Full Metal Glitter Liner in Heavy Metal, a silver glitter, on the inner third of my lower lash line. A girl needs some sparkle right?
Brows were the usual suspects of Anastasia Beverly Hill’s Brow Wiz in Medium Brown, heavy on the tail light on the front. With a bit of brow gel to keep things perky – I’m loving the Boy Brow by Glossier, it’s everything I wanted Gimme Brow to be.
Lastly the lips! I wanted a deep wine lip, but didn’t want it too deep, and it had to last. I started by lining my lips with Nars’ Cruella Velvet Lip Pencil in the centre portion and did the outer corners with Maybelline’s Colour Drama in Berry Much. Then I blotted that thing to death until only a stain was left, layered again and blotted. Once I was sure the stain was set – I applied Charlotte Tilbury’s Matte Revolution Lipstick in Love Liberty on top. That was a bit too purple-berry so I did anther layer of Cruella on top.
It was perfect and I loved the look, it lasted very nicely throughout the Dinner Party from around 19:00 till 2:00. I think I’ll be cracking this one out again sometime soon…
What did you do on NYE? Let me know what you’re favourite bit of makeup was!
