Favourite Foundations For Mixing

Favourite Foundations For MixingI love mixing my base, creating a concoction based on my mood that day. It’s a bit high maintenance and doesn’t make for a speedy getting ready routine but it does make me a happy happy girl. If you’re trying to finish up a product, if your favourite foundation is a smidge too dark because winter or if you love the finish but not the coverage – there’s a mix that’s right for you.

A little while back CoverFX launched the Custom Cover Drops, I reviewed it here, and this product promoted mixing your base. I’ve found that it often takes on the qualities of whatever you mix it in with so for lasting power it’s best to use it with an actual foundation or tinted moisturiser. For days when I want a bit more oomph to spread on my face I like this one.
Best with: Chantecaille Just Skin, Becca Shimmering Skin Perfecter.
The Flower Beauty About Face Foundation is a very nice one, if a bit heavy and the shade I’ve got can be a smidge too light for some days. However it’s got a very comfortable formula and a good amount of coverage so it’s perfect for mixing it with a glow inducing primer or a too dark foundation be it a matte finish or a dewy one.
Best with: Chanel Velvet Perfection Lumiere, Charlotte Tilbury WonderGlow.
It’s not secret that the Chanel Vitalumiere Aqua Foundation is one of my favourites. I’m the proud owner of two shades and on the  quest to finish the darker of the two I discovered just how awesome it is for mixing. The glowy, sheer formula means it’ll impart a nice boost of healthy looking skin to any other foundation and the too dark shade means I look as if I’ve seen some sun (I haven’t). It doesn’t make other foundations breakup on the skin or alter coverage too much.
Best with: Dior SkinStar Foundation, Tarte Amazonian Clay 24 Hour Foundation.
Lastly there’s the tints. There’s the Glossier Skin Tint which has no pigment to it but can totally even out skintone as if by magic. The super sheer formula means it’s perfect for sheering out something with a bit too much coverage for good skin days (but not that good).  For a boost of extra hydration the Bare Minerals Complexion Rescue is amazing, the gel formula is on it’s own but for a foundation that’s a bit too dry it can be life changing.
Best with: Kevyn Aucoin Sensual Skin Enhancer, L’Oreal Infallible 24hr Matte.
