Beating the Seasonal Skin Freak Out

Beating the Seasonal Skin Freak OutSpring is pretty much here and my skin? Not loving the sometimes warm sometimes cold weather and it’s crazy crazy moods. For the first time in my life I’ve gotten strange dry patches in the springtime, on my hands, on my body and worst of all – on my face. Things have gone from normal-dry to Mad Max dry and this means I need to crack out some serious moisture boosting products. If you are battling some spring dryness too here are the bits that have been saving me.

I’ll start with my hands because even in the deep depths of winter my cuticles look fine and my hands were nice and soft. Now it’s a flakey dry mess that makes taking photos of me holding a product a non existent option. To help them out I’ve been slathering the L’Occitane Cuticle Oil at night and at lunch time to give those puppies some love. For my lizard-hands I needed something nice and rich but not sticky, tacky or greasy – I do type 80% of the day basically. As much as I adore my Aesop Resurrection Hand Balm the scent can be a bit overwhelming especially in a small office, so instead I cracked open the Oskia Renaissance Hand Cream which is softly scented with a rosey smell that’s relaxing and nice. If there’s excesses hand cream I like to smooth those bits over my neck ’cause I’m not getting any younger.

For my poor face night time is moisture time, unless I’m spending the day working at home with no video chats and then it’s an all day moisture festival. I do the usual cleansing with an oil and a muslin cloth – those are good to slough off any dead skin. Once it’s all nice and clean, it’s time to layer!
I start off with a serum/oil combo, this might seem a bit much but it’s worked for me and I’m not arguing with what works, of Sunday Riley Luna Sleeping Night Oil and then MV Organics’ Rose + Booster which is 100% amazing. I layer around 5 drops of Luna, let them sink in whilst I brush my teeth and floss, then I take 2-3 drops of the Rose + and pat those in.
To lock all the moisture in I layer a bit of the COSRX Ultimate Nourishing Rice Overnight Mask, a very thin layer really, this sort of melts into the skin and I’m loving it. Then I go about doing things like playing with Theo and putting away the dishes. Right before bed I pop on some night cream like this Cult 51 sample I got from a Cult Beauty goodie bag – while it may stink it’s doing the job very well so I’ll suffer.

Throughout the day I like to apply lip balm, be it my lovely Glossier Balm dot Com or the ByTerry Balm de Rose. Since I still love a bit of lipstick I like to build a stain and then just apply the balm on top, post lunch I re-stain the lips and add a bit of balm for a glossy sheen. If your lips are dry you’ll want to a. hide the flakiness b. hydrate so you don’t feel like they’re falling off, so a stain + balm is my solution of choice.

  • I’m currently using the Dr Dennis Gross Alpha Beta Daily Peels and I have to say that my skin has never looked better. I too had weird dry patches and flaking which never happens and they’ve helped a lot. Highly recommend 🙂

My hands are awful at the moment too and I haven’t found a decent hand cream that doesn’t make my sensitive skin flare up and become even more dry and flaky, ARGH. I may have to give this one a go!
