Go To Masks

Masking is part of my routine, in fact it might be my favorite part of my routine. Masks let me focus on me for those 5, 10, 15 or 30 minutes and really there nothing better.

With masks there are three main categories or functions that they slot into my routine; purifying, moisturizing and brightening. In fact, I’m pretty sure that all of the masks I’ve tried to date can be assigned to one of these. There are other categories out there – like tightening or detoxing but those are not really on my radar at this time. Never say never with skincare!

Recently I’ve been reaching for these four masks and they do not disappoint.

Biologique Recherche Masque Vivant

God this thing has the worst smell ever. It’s very pungent and yet that might make it super-effective, as Pokemon Go might say. This mask isn’t only smelly, its also difficult to get your hands on! Biologique Recherche are notoriously difficult to procure so its not surprising but this mask really does balance out your skin. Whenever I’m having a rough skin patch, pimple, random dry-patches or even just a bleh looking complexion I reach for this one.

Aurelia Probiotic Skincare Refine & Polish Miracle Balm

This is a scrub/mask hybrid but I’ve only ever used it as a mask. I first encountered it as a travel sized gift-with-purchase from Cult Beauty and fell promptly in love. Usually, I stay far far away from physical exfoliants but this has some of the softest ‘gritty-bits’ ever and I’m calm knowing there’s no awful plastic micro-beads to pollute out oceans. It’s a soft, moisturizing formula that doesn’t sting or burn so great for those with more sensitive skins. Interested? Purchase it here.

Glossier Moisturizing Moon Mask

This packs a punch when it comes to hydration. One half of Glossier’s Mask Pack, the moisturizing moon mask says exactly what it says on the tin – out of this world moisturizing capabilities are here. It’s without a doubt one of my favorite face masks ever, and has never disappointed me post-flight or after a 72 hour flu. Get it with 10% off on the Glossier website here.

Huxley Secret of Sahara Good Night Sleep Mask

A mask you sleep in – does it get any better? Catching my Z’s while treating the skin is a favored pastime for any skincare lover. Skin cell turnover is twice as fast at night than its daytime rate  and there’s no free radicals in sight to do some harmful damage. This mask moisturizes without feeling heavy and it doesn’t leave any funky colors on your nice pillow case. Order it here.
